Stacker Cups

This year our school purchased several sets of stacker cups. They are great fun and apparently improve your hand eye co ordination. We have videoed a demonstration for you. Danni, Morgan, Aimee and Briar

High jump

There was a man named Gump.
His favourite game was high jump.
He's very good at it.
And he was always strong and fit.
He was famous.
And never shameless.
It was Gumps game of high jump.
He starts running.
He jumps the high jump bar.
He made it.
He made it far.
Everybody in the crowd cheering.
Some of his fans have trouble hearing.
He waves his hands to all his fans.
Walking across the watery sand.
He collects his trophy and takes it home to keep.
Cause after the long day Gump needs a long sleep.

Running race

There once was a guy in a race,
Who had an extremely slow pace,
He had a bad fall,
He is very tall,
He ended up flat on his face.

Journal making

Journal making is a lot of fun. I've made my own journal and its really cool. I've made it in clubs it is really easy to make. I'm going to tell you step by step how to make a journal of your own. First you get some cardboard, cut it up into two even pieces and one strip of card to make the spine. Secondly pick a wall paper to wrap around your book. Third if you want you can use vaseline to stick some soft tissue on the side of your book. Fourth with the rest of the paper that you used for the wrapping cut it up so it can fit into the book. You can get your book in all sizes. Fifth use some string to tie your paper into your book. Use some tough string so the paper doesn't fall out. You can also cut out pictures to stick onto your book in the front or stick photos in it. Once you've done all that then you have yourself a journal to write in.

The spirit of freedom

A beautiful creature galloping
The breeze dancing in the air
Darting, Soaring, Bolting, Leaping
Living without a care
Hurdling with the eagle
That’s flying up above
Jumping, Dashing, Sprinting, Racing
A horse, a creature to love

Now gliding through the deep blue sky
Over the long white cloud
Hovering, Flapping, Flying, Screeching
The call of the gull clear and loud
Plummeting down to the ocean
Trying to catch a fish
Swarming, Soaring, Diving, Fluttering
To be a bird, my only wish

Sneaking in the grasslands
Round a hollow tree I creep
Roaring, Searching, Seeking, Stalking
I spy my prey and leap
The antelope got away
But now a tigers worst fear
Running, Ripping, Scampering, Speeding
For the tiger poachers are here

Swimming through a river
Dancing with the trout
Darting, Dodging, Swimming, Gliding
To where the sea comes out
Now I’m in the ocean
That leads out to a stream
That’s exactly what occurred to me
Before I woke up from my dream

New Zealand maths week

From the 10th to the 15th of August it was New Zealand Maths Week. Our class entered online and played some fun maths games to earn maths week dollars and bid on things at the auction. Sarah, Kimberley and Sean all won posters and I won a torch. We did very well to win four things, because 40,000 kiwi kids entered the competition.

Warm Fuzzies

Our class has a reward system that uses warm fuzzies. They are a piece of coloured paper that have a small fluffy creature on it. You get warm fuzzies by acting good or doing your home work. Then you put your warm fuzzy in a small container. If your name gets picked out you get half an hour of free play!

Motorbike

Starting up the engine
Going through the gate
Mud flying everywere
Thats one thing I hate

Getting in the cows
Following them up the race
They're going slow on purpose
At this crazy pace

Now I'm having fun
Cows I follow no more
Here comes a jump
Now through the air I soar

The mud is really slippery
Like a waterslide
Zomming round the track
My heart filled with pride

Speeding through the bush
Dodging all the trees
Like a multiplying army
The sky I can not see

Sliding round the bend
Hope I do not crash
Look out for that bump
Before I know it smash

Flooding poem

Dark brown murky water rushing like waterfalls
50 year old trees snapping like match sticks
Fences bending in seconds
Wind like a giant tornado
Highways become waterways
Buckets of water pouring down
People evacuating like tiny ants
No roads in sight
Waves like Tsunamis
News crews coming in by the dozen
Rivers flooding their banks
Amazing sights all-round
Creeks become raging torrents of fury
Civil Defence helping
No power anywhere
Cows huddling
Garages ripped up in Milliseconds
Mini tornados forming
Flat farmland becoming lakes
A ducks paradise

screen printing

For clubs I'm doing screen printing. To start off we have to draw our picture and trace onto plastic. Then we have to cut out the picture with a knife. Then we paint our picture on to a t-shirt or a pillow case. Now you have to wait until it's dry Then we have an attractive new t-shirt or pillow case.

Science Club

Active Learning class

Each Thursday 5 people from each class learn about poetry, art and drama with Mrs Williams. We learn poetry from william Shakspeare and many other famous poetry writers. We also learn famous stories like Romeo and Juliet and after the story we normally do a play. My favourite story thats been made into a play is a story dated back 500 years ago and how they used to think witches and wizards were true. The play was about two aliens driving a spaceship. They spot a witch and the witch tricks the aliens by giving them a ride on her broom stick. She casts a spell on them and they orbit around the sun while the witch is enjoying the comfort of the space ship. It was a fun play to act out. I am really enjoying the classes.

At the start of the term Room1 wrote some poems to enter in the Rodney Library compeition. Briars poem called freedom.

Freedom

Free spirited,

No responsibilities,

Trust her and she will trust you,

Walking, trotting, cantering, galloping,

Freedom, fabulous freedom,

She sounds like thunder

as her big feet pound against the ground,

Silky black body shines in the bright sunlight,

Long black mane as soft as a pillow,

Shiny tail bright in the moonlight,

She needs to be loved like your very oun treasure,

A horse is an animal to love.

Jamie's Poem

Jamie won the Rodney Libraries Podcast Poetry Competition this year and is the proud owner of a new MP3 Player. He already has 98 songs loaded onto it. Here is his winning poem. Rugby Ice-cold, rain, damp Players escaping from the club rooms Playing on the sloppy field Try scoring maniacs Courageous Kickers Kicking off the grotty ground Spectators screaming at the top of their lungs GO! GO! GO! Going home Having the goose bumps Having a sweet steaming hot chocolate Another sprig mark on my arm But a good game of rugby. By Jamie Trent and William had poems that were highly commended. Well done boys!

Journal Making

Yesterday we had a great time in clubs. We are doing journal making. The people in our group are Aimee, Joanna, Daniel, Alexia and Caitlyn. So far we have stuck the paper on the cover of our journals. We just started to fold the paper up in the shape of the pages. Next week in journal making we will probably stick the paper in the journal.
